Beef Lok Lak Rice Bowl

Bai Lok Lak is a tasty, easy-to-make dish, served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Pan-fry the beef in the marinating sauce and serve with fresh salad or lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, and fried eggs. It's always eaten with a ground black pepper lime sauce.

Ingredients
  

Pepper Lime Sauce:
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp Lok Lak sauce (from stir-fry)
  • 1 tbsp water
Stir-fry
  • 500 g beef (tenderloin)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 5 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp chicken flavour soup base mix
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp fish sauce
  • 100 ml water
Stir-fry Lok Lak Rice
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 2-3 cups cooked rice
  • 4-5 tbsp lok lak sauce

Method
 

Pepper Lime Sauce:
  1. Combine ground black pepper, minced garlic, salt, sugar, lime juice, Lok Lak sauce, and water in a small mixing bowl and stir well.
Stir-fry
  1. Cut the beef into cubes or thinly slice, depending on how you like it.
  2. Place a non-stick frying pan or a wok over medium hight heat, add olive oil, and minced garlic then stir until golden.
  3. Add beef cubes, sugar, salt, ground black pepper, chicken flavour soup base mix, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ketchup, fish sauce, and stir to combine
  4. Add water and stir until the beef is mostly cooked all over, then remove it from the heat.
  5. NOTE: if you prefer cooked onion, it is the right time to add thinly sliced onion and stir fry with the beef; otherwise, place the thinly slice onion together with lettuce, cucumber, and tomato.
Stir-fry Lok Lak Rice
  1. Place a pan over medium high heat, add olive oil, garlic and stir fry until golden brown. Then add in 2-3 cups or more of cooked rice.
  2. Add 4-5 tablespoons of lok lak sauce (gravy) and stir until well combined.
Serving:
  1. Place the stir-fried rice in a bowl or plate, cover with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, beef lok lak, and the lok lak sauce or gravy all over.
  2. For serving, mix all to combine and enjoy!
  3. Optional, pan-fry 1-2 eggs to you liking, and place on top of the beef lok lak rice.
